BANDWAGONis the latest vehicle in the musical journeys of singer songwriters Maria Roberts and Kim Rooke. And it’s their best. Maria and Kim met at Leeds College of Music in the nineties and have been recording and playing live ever since. In their shared and diverse careers, they have supported artists such as The Proclaimers, Soft Cell, Mark Geary, Black, The Beautiful South as well as being a constant presence on the live venue and festival circuits playing the Shepherd’s Bush Empire, Sheffield City Hall, Beverley Folk Festival, Sheffield Memorial Hall and Moonbeams Festivals. Kim and Maria have both been involved with The Nick Rooke Band as well as working on separate projects – Maria recorded a well-received album of songs Time Between Times (under the name Maria Lynch),whilst Kim worked with the cult band Slo-Mo, both gaining national airplay. Recently, they were involved in a live BBC 6 Music session at Maida Vale Studios and worked with revered producers Owen Morris and Andy Green, known for their work with Oasis and Keane respectively. BANDWAGON are the band in residence for The Jolly Boys’ Brewery, based in Yorkshire. Both Maria and Kim have worked with other bands, supporting live music, at a residency in West Yorkshire for over ten years.
BANDWAGON sees Maria and Kim returning to their shared love of country and roots music with a unique collaboration of original songs being recorded for their debut album. It is a culmination of two lifetimes’ musical journeys and they are looking forward to sharing the material over the coming months in a series of live events. Coupled with their original material are Kim and Maria’s distinctive interpretations of well-known songs; a musical make-over with a delightful country edge, demonstrating musical expertise with a glint in the eye and a knowing smile.
Live at Fairview the new recording from seasoned singer/songwriters Maria Roberts and Kim Rooke. It’s their first album as BANDWAGON and features a collection of eleven original songs telling stories of hope, motherhood, sisterhood, home, frailty and fun. Influences are drawn from diverse sources such as Van Morrison, Dolly Parton and Gillian Welch. Live at Fairviewis an upbeat, succinct fusion of country and roots music, fused with Northern grit, wit and warmth. It was recorded LIVE at Fairview Studio in Hull during December 2018. The album is eagerly anticipated by those who viewed the songs being crafted on the duo’s Facebook site.
